A Vacancy at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. Consultant Psychiatrist – Intensive Care Unit (Colne Ward & Light House), Hillingdon Mental Health. Permanent, Full Time (10 PAs).
Position Overview
We are seeking a full‑time Consultant Psychiatrist to lead the multidisciplinary team for patients aged 18 and over who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness admitted to the Light House and Colne Ward located at the Riverside Centre in Uxbridge, Middlesex.
Candidate must be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview. The successful applicant will have the option to take up an additional 1PA as an educational post in partnership with Brunel University.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership for the assessment and management of patients admitted to the PICU and Light House, including ward rounds, reviews and oversight of care plans.
* Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ mental health conditions and develop individualized treatment plans.
* Collaborate effectively with nurses, psychologists, social workers and other multidisciplinary team members to deliver holistic care.
* Meet regularly with the Consultant Psychiatrist in charge of Crane Ward and Frays Ward.
* Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications as part of the treatment plan.
* Work with patients and families to facilitate smooth discharge and transition back into the community or less intensive care settings.
* Maintain communication and collaboration with community mental health teams and other relevant agencies.
* Ensure appropriate implementation of the Mental Health Act, including assessments and reviews.
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the PICU, such as audits, service evaluations and participation in clinical governance activities.
* Teach and supervise junior doctors or other team members.
* Participate in the on‑call rota to provide psychiatric support outside of regular working hours.
Qualifications
* GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at interview.
* Excellent leadership, innovative, enthusiastic and capable of working integrally with ward teams and stakeholders.
