Join to apply for the Consultant Community Paediatrician role at Wye Valley NHS Trust.
The post is based at the Child Development Centre in Hereford with possible clinics in county special schools. The Trust is committed to providing first-class care to children and families in Herefordshire and surrounding areas. The successful applicant will join a team in Community Child Health with opportunities for leadership and development of special interests.
Applicants wishing to work less than full time are welcome to apply. Flexible working options, including condensed hours or some remote working, will be considered. There is no on-call commitment with this post.
Main duties of the job
* Clinical responsibilities adjusted to expertise and may include:
* Provision of clinics for Statutory Health Assessments for Children in Care
* Provision of neurodevelopmental clinics and ASD assessments
* Provision of clinics in one of the county’s special needs schools
* Provision of general clinics
* Provision of clinics to provide medical advice to Education
* Equal admin time allocated to clinical time (e.g., four hour clinic = four hours admin)
* SPA allocation of 1.5 PA per week with potential to 2.5 PA for specific responsibilities
* 1 PA of DCC per week to cover activities as required (e.g., multi-agency meetings, nursery/school visits, multidisciplinary meetings)
* Any clinical admin undertaken as a result of delivering above activities
On offer is the opportunity for leadership roles within the service and development of special interests (e.g., neurodisability, ADHD, safeguarding).
Essential qualifications and experience
* Full registration with the General Medical Council
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* Entry on Specialist Register in Community Child Health via CCT or CESR, or within six months of obtaining Specialist Registration (at the date of interview)
* Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application
* Wide experience in Paediatrics; minimum 5 years at middle grade level
* Knowledge of child protection and experience in managing child abuse/neglect
* Formal training in Child Safeguarding (Level 3 or higher) within the last 12 months
* Knowledge of the SEND framework and Statutory Framework for Children Looked After
* Experience undertaking Neurodevelopmental Assessments including Autism
* IT skills and ability to work within health digital systems; basic life support
Desirable qualifications and experience
* Higher degree (e.g., MSc, MD) and relevant diplomas
* Experience or training in child mental health, Looked After Children services, EHCP, ASD
* Experience in Community Paediatrics; leadership or named doctor for Looked After Children
* Membership of professional societies (BACCH, BACD, BAAF, etc.)
Management and quality improvement
* Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management
* Ability to mentor staff and lead service developments
* Experience in clinical audit and guideline development; willingness to engage in research
Teaching and communication
* Experience teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
* Strong communication skills; ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting
* Good organisational and time management skills
Other requirements
* Able to travel to meet the requirements of the post
* UK professional registration required
