About the role
As a Construction Skills Instructor at Richard Barnes Academy, you will work with young people aged 12–16 in an alternative provision setting, helping them develop practical construction skills, confidence, and positive work habits. This is a hands‑on, workshop‑focused role centred on:
* Delivering practical construction skills
* Modelling industry standards, routines, and safe working practices
* Engaging learners through real‑world, skills‑based activities
You’ll work as part of a supportive team, building positive relationships and preparing students for progression into further education, training, or apprenticeships. While there is some planning and assessment, your emphasis will be on practical delivery rather than paperwork‑heavy classroom teaching.
What we’re looking for
* Strong hands‑on experience in construction or a related trade
* A practical, patient and encouraging approach
* The ability to build positive relationships with young people
* A commitment to safety, inclusion and safeguarding
* Previous teaching experience is helpful but not essential
Benefits
* A stable, school‑hours role with long‑term security
* The opportunity to pass on real, practical skills to young people
* Full training and support to gain a teaching qualification
* A welcoming, inclusive Trust where staff wellbeing matters
