Our client is a successful e-commerce and distribution business, part of a large US-owned company operating across Europe with a strong brand presence in their market.
Your new role
Reporting to the Finance Director, you will manage a team of 5 and be responsible for the preparation of local monthly financial and management accounts, including reporting and analysis of staff and operating costs versus budget plans and year-on-year comparisons. You will oversee the submission of European business results into Group Consolidation and ensure accurate balance sheet management, including stock valuations. Leading the annual external audit, supporting corporate tax reporting across all European regions, and managing local corporate tax reporting alongside group tax compliance, including transfer pricing, will be key responsibilities. As Financial Controller, you will ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and legal requirements across multiple jurisdictions and manage monthly payroll & pension payments, including HMRC and pension reporting.
This role also involves supporting annual budget planning, managing the multi-currency treasury function, and ensuring timely processing of payments, income, and credits. You will be a key owner of the European financial elements of the SAP S4 HANA system, driving continuous improvement and system effectiveness.
What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with experience in staff management and leading teams in an international setting. Experience in fast-growing SMEs, omnichannel, wholesale, or direct-to-consumer businesses is preferred. Strong technical financial skills, including budget preparation, cross-border transactions, VAT, and income taxes, are essential, along with analytical skills to support business decisions. Knowledge of SAP is desirable. You should have a proactive approach to process improvement, change management, and be commercially astute with confident decision-making skills. A willingness to 'roll up your sleeves' to resolve issues is important.
