Position Summary
The role of
Electro-Mechanical/Automation Systems Engineer
involves supporting the development of practical, robust concepts for electromechanical and robotic automation systems. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, documentation, testing, and development of bespoke automation solutions while identifying and mitigating risks in both process and design.
This position also includes responsibility for producing detailed technical documentation and operator manuals to support system deployment.
Key Responsibilities
Departmental Responsibilities:
* Contribute technical expertise in the design and development of automated systems for handling, manufacturing, inspection, and assembly processes.
* Generate and refine concepts for electromechanical systems, working collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.
* Ensure effective documentation of concepts and designs for use across internal departments.
* Create detailed operator guides and technical documentation for finalised systems.
* Oversee design testing to identify issues early and propose effective solutions.
* Represent the Systems Engineering function professionally and advocate for its standards and goals.
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical development of colleagues across departments.
* Support proposal development by working with customers to define project scope and requirements.
* Conduct engineering studies to assess process and equipment feasibility.
* Adhere to all relevant company policies and procedures in carrying out duties.
Functional Responsibilities:
* Perform structured testing and validation of in-development equipment.
* Assist in preparing project documentation including:
* Process reviews
* System proposals
* Requirements and process flow definitions
* Block diagrams and system-level documents
* Operator manuals and supporting technical materials
* Support internal research efforts within the systems team.
* Develop concept designs, 3D models, and carry out analytical design assessments.
Candidate Profile
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Minimum of 5 years in engineering design and manufacturing roles.
* Demonstrated experience delivering projects from concept through to commissioning.
* Skilled in developing system-level requirements and applying structured design methodologies.
* Proficient in producing technical documentation, manuals, reports, and assessments.
* Familiar with qualification and acceptance testing for systems and components.
* Strong documentation and specification management skills.
* A logical, problem-solving mindset with both creative and analytical design abilities.
* Understanding of a broad range of manufacturing methods and practices.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
Desirable Experience:
* Exposure to 2D/3D vision systems and process development in manufacturing.
* Familiarity with ISO standards and SolidWorks.
* Experience with industrial robotics and PLC-controlled systems.
* Understanding of electrical systems and software control (ideally in C#).
* Knowledge of fibre-reinforced composite manufacturing.
* Ability to estimate material requirements and project timelines accurately.
Education:
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Systems, or Software Engineering.
