The role
As a Lifting Operations Appointed Person, you’ll be at the heart of ensuring that all lifting activities across HMNB Clyde are planned, supervised, and executed safely and compliantly. This is a critical role that directly supports the Royal Navy and national defence, making it both challenging and rewarding. You’ll develop lift plans, method statements, and risk assessments from first principles, ensuring compliance with LOLER and BS standards. Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Develop and approve lift plans, method statements, and risk assessments.
2. Ensure lifting operations comply with LOLER and BS standards.
3. Brief and supervise SQEP personnel for all lifting activities.
4. Support the Lifting Operations Manager in achieving KPIs.
5. Mentor and coach team members to maintain a robust skills matrix.
You'll be working full-time, 36 hours per week (Monday to Thursday) and based onsite at Helensburgh in Argyll and Bute.
Essential experience of the Lifting Operations Appointed Person:
6. In-depth knowledge of LOLER, BS, and related regulations.
7. Experience supporting lifting operations across waterfront and maintenance facilities.
8. Understanding of operating procedures for nuclear facilities.
9. Proven ability to develop safe systems of work (SSoW).
10. Strong background in risk assessment and compliance.
Qualifications for the Lifting Operations Appointed Person:
11. Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) Accredited Training
12. Must hold a relevant health and safety qualification, i.e., CITB Health and Safety Awareness for Plant Operators, IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Safety Health and Environment for Construction Workers, or equivalent.
13. Working at Height Awareness training.
