Permit Coordinator/Officer
Nuclear Engineering / Manufacturing – Fixed Term Contract – 12 Months
We are supporting a leading Nuclear Engineering and Manufacturing company in the appointment of an experienced Permit Officer on a 12‑month fixed term contract. This role is critical to the safe control and coordination of work activities within a high‑hazard, highly regulated nuclear engineering facility.
The Role
As Permit Officer, you will have authority for the release, coordination, and suspension of work within a designated facility area, ensuring safe system configuration at all times.
Key Responsibilities
* Authorise the start, continuation, interruption, or suspension of scheduled work activities.
* Act on behalf of the Facility to control all work within your designated area.
* Co‑ordinate multiple work activities to ensure compatibility with facility conditions and other planned works.
* Release work in line with the authorised schedule and approved change control processes.
* Provide input into integrated planning activities.
* Participate in stakeholder meetings as the Facility representative.
* Conduct routine facility tours to verify work is performed safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
* Act as the central point of contact for personnel entering the controlled area, ensuring correct authorisation under site rules.
* Verify SSOW documentation and ensure records are archived in line with company procedures.
* Provide independent verification of electrical and mechanical isolations under the ITC process.
* Review work packs to confirm appropriate safety controls are in place.
* Participate in risk assessment activities.
* Maintain accurate awareness of work status and provide effective handovers.
* Exercise stop‑work authority where activities are deemed unsafe.
Essential Experience & Knowledge
* Previous experience in a Permit Officer or Safe System of Work Controller role.
* Strong, demonstrable understanding of electrical and mechanical isolation processes.
* Experience working in nuclear, energy, heavy engineering, or other high‑hazard regulated environments.
* Confident engaging with multiple stakeholders and enforcing safety standards.
