Overview
We are excited to be recruiting a Housing and Civil Litigation Assistant Principal Lawyer to join our Local Authority clients busy but friendly legal team. The role involves a varied caseload including general residential/commercial property advice, disrepair, homelessness, judicial reviews, debt recovery, and other civil litigation work. It is offered on a hybrid working basis, attending the office two days per week and court as required.
Key Responsibilities
* Work closely with the Principal Lawyer and other Assistant Principal Lawyers in managing, developing and improving team performance.
* Advise and manage a complex caseload of housing and civil litigation matters such as homelessness, possessions, disrepair, and general civil litigation.
* Advise on high‑profile and sensitive matters, including senior officers and elected members at council meetings.
* Represent the team in client liaison meetings, providing clear and practical advice to support service delivery.
* Supervise, mentor and support team members, including junior lawyers and legal assistants.
Experience & Qualifications
* Qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister or CILEx with Litigation and Advocacy Rights or Higher Rights) with a current practising certificate.
* Experience in housing law and civil litigation, with previous local authority experience required.
* Demonstrated ability to manage a complex caseload and support others.
* Strong communication skills with confidence to advise senior stakeholders and elected members.
* Ready to work full‑time on a hybrid basis, two days per week in the office and attending court.
