Are you a DT Teacher who believes that the workshop is where the real breakthroughs happen? We are currently recruiting for a unique and rewarding role within a dedicated Alternative Provision in Southampton. If you're a Design & Technology specialist who thrives on building relationships and using practical skills to re-engage students who struggle in mainstream settings, we want to hear from you.
1. Role: DT Teacher (Resistant Materials)
2. Focus: KS3 & KS4 students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs
3. Start: Easter 2026
4. Contract: Full-time, long-term (with a clear path to a permanent contract)
5. Impact: Using woodworking, metalwork, and design to build confidence and vocational pathways for young people.
The Environment
Unlike a standard secondary school, this Southampton-based Provision offers a smaller, more focused setting.
6. Small Class Sizes: Forget managing 30 students; here, you work with small groups where you can actually make a difference.
7. Vocational Focus: The workshops are the heart of the school, focusing on tangible achievement and "learning by doing."
8. Supportive Culture: You'll be part of a tight-knit team of specialists and support staff who understand the challenges and joys of AP.
What You Bring to the Bench
9. The Credentials: QTS/QTLS or equivalent, with a specialization in Resistant Materials.
10. The Mindset: You are patient, adaptable, and see the potential in every student, regardless of their past educational hurdles.
11. The Safety: Expert knowledge of workshop Health & Safety; you can keep a workshop running smoothly while keeping students focused.
12. The Resilience: Strong de-escalation skills and the ability to maintain a calm, positive environment.
Note: An Enhanced DBS on the update service is required. If you don't have one, we can assist with the application process.
