Principal Accountabilities:
* Provide professional leadership for complex case arrangements, especially in situations involving risk, complexity, and safety of the service user and others.
* Identify needs and strengths through assessment and source appropriate solutions and interventions.
* Use analytical skills, interviews, and observations to inform assessment, decision-making, and interventions to achieve desired outcomes within the context of managing risk to children and young people with SEND.
* Complete support planning with families by understanding child development, parenting capacity, and family and environmental factors to meet outcomes identified at assessment (within budgetary constraints) through the provision of support.
* Take a professional lead on safeguarding issues where abuse or neglect is suspected.
* Assess and balance risk and protective factors within a child protection framework.
* Provide specialist social work practice skills and knowledge to make independent decisions and support situations with high risk, ambiguity, or complexity.
* Ensure legislation (including SEND legislation) is adhered to and challenge decisions when appropriate.
* Act as the lead professional to ensure child protection matters are handled promptly, effectively, and in line with procedures, escalating as necessary.
* Provide written and verbal child protection plans, along with reports for courts and legal purposes, based on complex evidence to support problem-solving and resolution.
* Assess and manage risk, intervening proportionately to protect individuals from harm while respecting human rights.
* Contribute to the Education, Health and Care Planning Review process, ensuring the Local Authority has sufficient evidence for decision-making.
