Responsibilities
* People Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow a UK‑based distributed team of 7 senior and intermediate engineers, providing regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development coaching.
* Execution & Delivery: Own the team's execution and delivery, establishing a predictable cadence using agile methodologies and collaborating with the Technical Product Manager to deliver the quarterly roadmap.
* Technical Guidance: Act as the team's technical steward, guiding architectural discussions, reviewing designs, and upholding high standards for quality, scalability, security, and non‑functional requirements.
* Project & Strategic Ownership: Lead strategic projects such as the SCIM rollout and device‑based authentication, both critical for our enterprise customers.
* Stakeholder Management: Represent the team in planning and technical discussions, clearly articulating trade‑offs and building strong relationships with stakeholders across product, engineering, and the wider business.
Must‑Haves
* People management experience – 3+ years of direct leadership with a team of 5‑10 engineers.
* Strong technical foundation – 5+ years of hands‑on experience as a senior or staff engineer, particularly in C# (or equivalent experience in Java).
* Distributed systems design – Proven ability to design, build, and operate scalable, highly available systems.
* Modern tech stack experience – Experience with AWS, Docker/Kubernetes, and API design (gRPC, REST).
* Database expertise – Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL and Cassandra.
* A people‑first approach – Commitment to growth, mentorship, and performance management.
* Strong execution – Ability to deliver value while balancing technical excellence.
* Excellent problem‑solver – Proficiency in breaking down complex problems into actionable steps.
* Clear communicator – Strong collaboration skills and ability to articulate technical concepts.
Nice‑to‑Haves
* Domain knowledge in IAM (SSO, OAuth, SCIM, OIDC).
* Event‑driven systems experience (Kafka).
* Hiring experience in a distributed team.
* DevOps & scaling expertise, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud migration.
