Overview

We are recruiting a full-time Capital Project Manager to lead and support the delivery of capital projects across the Trust, ensuring they meet key objectives and support our overall strategic plans. You'll have responsibility for the design, development and delivery of complex projects across our sites, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget and to the highest standards. From modernising healthcare facilities and ensuring compliance with NHS and statutory regulations, to driving innovation in sustainable design, this role offers both challenge and reward in equal measure. UHS Estates Limited (UEL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). The company is responsible for the design and construction of new buildings, and the ongoing provision of services, including estates maintenance, soft facilities management and the management of equipment, consumables and materials, in support of one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England.

Job responsibilities

* Fulfil the role of Capital Project Manager for a number of assigned projects in line with financial limits, providing project delivery for designated schemes to ensure the successful completion of the project brief to time, cost and quality and in accordance with HTMs, HBNs and all other mandatory/statutory requirements.
* Assist the Senior Project Managers and other team members in the day-to-day management and administration of large/complex projects, from conception to completion of the work on site. Carry out regular accompanied planned and unaccompanied ad-hoc site inspections and check, appraise and comment to the Lead Consultant on rate of progress, standard of workmanship, compliance with specification and contractor administration. Similarly, appraise health & safety on site.
* Appoint and manage a multidisciplined team to include line managing the Project teams as well as appointing external contractors and consultants, monitoring their performance on the project.
* Maintain project cost planning and cost control procedures to ensure a clear, balanced cost framework within which to produce and deliver a successful design and to ensure that the agreed budget is the maximum limit of expenditure.


Experience & Qualifications

* HNC/Degree or equivalent qualification in a Building Services, Building or related field, and Project Management Qualification or equivalent experience. Design knowledge/experience or must be prepared to train in this field.
* Extensive experience in Building Services maintenance, building maintenance and/or design and minor installation works in the construction industry or Healthcare.


Qualifications / Training

* HNC/Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Services, Building or related field, and Project Management Qualification or equivalent experience.
* Design knowledge/experience or must be prepared to train in this field.
* Experience in CAD Packages
* Membership of a recognised professional organisation
* NEEBOSH General Certificate
* Knowledge of Building Regs and understanding of statutory and legal processes in respect to site developments or training within agreed period of time.


Previous or relevant experience

* Extensive experience of Building Services maintenance, building maintenance and/or design and minor installation works in construction industry or Healthcare.
* Considerable previous experience in the engineering and/or building construction industry including site supervision of contractors, working to complex programmes and delivery schedules.
* Knowledge of HBN/HTM, asbestos regulations and Approved Codes of Practice etc.
* Experience of managing directly employed labour and contractors in the delivery of (a) carrying out minor projects (b) a reactive maintenance provision, (c) a planned maintenance provision, or (d) a combined service provision.

£49,387 to £56,515 a year pa or pa pro rata
