Overall purpose:
The UKIFS Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations, a robust financial control framework, accurate financial reporting and management of the companys first external audit and publication of financial statements, providing robust financial accounting advice to the company, as well as developing financial control policies and processes that will underpin UKIFSs evolution as a company as it transitions to its new Operating Model.
This is a temporary requirement as we recruit to a permanent role.
Specific Accountabilities:
Manage the external audit process ahead of finalisation of the companys first Annual report and Accounts
Ensure that reporting adheres to statutory law and financial regulations, including the Companies Act and with the Government Financial reporting Manual
Provide technical accounting advice to the business on application of accounting standards and any budgeting implications of complex transactions
Manage the responsible use of public funds across the company
Support the Finance Director in corporate governance including with supporting information for board meetings.
Lead on development of finance inputs to the Audit, Risk and Assurance committee.
Ensure adherence to all tax regulations and optimise the VAT strategy of the company.
Work collaboratively with UKAEA financial control team on ensuring effective cash management and provision of support services
Support the FD and Finance Transition lead in ensuring transformation of finance support for UKIFS to a registered company with multiple large external partners and investment sources.
Responsibility for developing and implementing robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records
Regularly monitor effectiveness of internal controls
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and government controls and adherence to the UKIFS delegation letter.
Work with UKAEA Group finance team to ensure coherency of financial control frameworks and adherence to Group policies
Ensure effective management of key financial control risks
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
Public Sector Finance Knowledge: Familiarity with the specific regulations processes and governance frameworks applicated to public sector organisations in the UK.
Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role.
Experience working in Group structures
In depth understanding of external financial reporting, reporting standards and compliance requirements.
Excellent technical accounting skills gained in a complex organisation, of significant size and responsibilities.
Experience in senior roles in financial transformation projects or organisational change initiatives
Management of shared services delivery
