Overview
Applications are invited for the position of Middle Grade Orthopaedic Trauma Fellow. A 12-month fixed term contract is available to start in August 2025.
Eligibility and Candidates
The post is suitable for candidates who have completed Core Training in the UK or who have at least a year of Orthopaedic Trauma experience in a UK Major Trauma Centre or Trauma Unit. Those without this experience will not be shortlisted.
About the Department and Role
The Oxford Trauma Service was established in 1941 and now leads the Thames Valley Major Trauma Centre serving a population of 3.2 million. It is a prestigious 24-hour Consultant-led service with an international reputation for research, innovation and orthoplastic limb reconstruction.
The post will have the same clinical timetable and opportunities as Oxford Specialty Trainees and will be well placed to apply for subsequent ST or CSER training rotations. The role is focused on Orthopaedic Trauma and will not require on-call cover for infection, soft tissue injuries, hands or cauda equina.
Responsibilities and Activities
* Regular departmental teaching sessions each week; fellows are expected to teach medical students and junior team members.
* Be involved in service development, quality improvement and audit, with opportunities to publish and present findings.
* Provide support to the spinal service for trauma and metastatic spinal cord injuries overnight.
* Contribute to the Trauma Service care model, including theatre work, ISCP WBAs, and supervision by educational leads.
* Work within the consultant-led on-call structure as part of a team with other trainees and F2 doctors; participate in MDT handovers, night shifts, and clinics.
* Support operating lists and daily clinics, as part of the two daily operating sessions and other scheduled duties.
Team and Structure
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a large teaching trust comprising four hospitals: John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury. The Trauma Service includes 12 consultants and two post-CCT Trueta Trauma fellows in theatre support. The middle grade tier consists of 6 Specialty Trainees, a CESR Trainee, and 2–3 junior clinical fellows (this post).

Administrative Details
* The post is full-time and fixed term for 1 year.
* The occupant must be resident during on-call periods.
* Full registration with the General Medical Council is required; out-of-hours commitment applies.
* The post holder must be up to date with mandatory and statutory training including ATLS.
