Job Description
Senior Designer / Draughtsman
Structural Steel | Built Environment | Delivery-Critical Role
This is not a role for someone who wants to 'do drawings.'
This is a role for someone who understands that good design protects programmes, margins, and reputations and that poor drawings cost time, money, and trust.
My client operates in a delivery-led construction environment where errors don't get hidden and excuses don't travel far. The drawings you produce will be built. Fast. Under pressure.
If that responsibility excites you, keep reading.
The mandate
You own the quality and clarity of design output.
That means:
* Producing accurate, buildable structural steel drawings
* Anticipating issues before they reach site
* Taking ownership of complex packages, not just isolated details
* Working closely with fabrication and installation teams to ensure what's drawn can actually be built
What success looks like
* Fabrication-ready drawings that don't come back with questions
* Fewer RFIs, fewer site clashes, fewer delays
* Programmes protected because design is right first time
* Engineers, project managers, and site teams trust your output
Who succeeds here
You are likely someone who:
* Has strong experience producing structural steel or architectural metalwork drawings
* Understands fabrication, tolerances, and site realities
* Can work at pace without sacrificing accuracy
* Takes accountability for your work from concept to installation
* Communicates clearly with engineers, PMs, and shop floor teams
* Doesn't need chasing, micromanaging, or hand-holding
The upside
* Competitive salary based on experience
* Long-term stability in a delivery-focused business
* Work that gets built - not shelved
Final word
If you see drawings as commitments - to the factory, to site, and to the programme - this role will suit you.
If this sounds like a position of interest, please forward an updated CV asap.
