Job Description

We are looking for environmental professionals to join our teams that regulate industrial and waste installations across the East Anglian Region.

* You will be at the forefront of protecting people and the environment from harm and securing environmental improvements.
* You will undertake compliance assessment activities at a range of industrial sites.
* You will ensure permit compliance and make complex assessments of operators’ ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise use of resources. You may set conditions under which a site may continue to operate and enforce these.
* You will use your influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice, dealing with people at senior levels within industry and local communities.
* You will respond to and investigate incidents across our portfolio of sites, ensuring preventive and protective action is implemented.
* You will also be expected to take up an incident management role in the wider business, which may include out of hours standby duties.

The team

The posts will be in one of our Installations Teams, within Local Operations, based in either Colchester, Ipswich, Ely or Norwich office.

The team works flexibly, delivering regulation at industrial processes including the food and drink, chemical, landfill, and energy from waste sectors located in the rural and urban areas of East Anglia.

To achieve our aims, it’s important that we work closely with other local and national teams, companies, communities and our partner organisations.


Experience / Skills Required

You’ll be a proactive, self‑motivated and confident communicator, used to influencing and negotiating to deliver outcomes, with strong interpersonal skills; together with well-developed technical expertise and regulatory experience within an industrial environment.

A full UK driving licence will be required as is flexibility to travel for operational site visits and incident response. A vehicle will be made available for business travel in line with our travel policy.

* Have regulatory and/or industrial experience
* Be familiar with environmental management systems, auditing, and root cause analysis
* Be able to interpret environmental monitoring and performance data
* Be used to managing multiple demands and delivering outcomes independently
* Take initiative and practice a continuous improvement approach
* Have a degree/equivalent in a scientific, environmental, or engineering discipline

It would be helpful, but not essential, if you had: Membership of a relevant professional organisation such as IEMA, CIWM.

Role Specific License Requirements

Driving Licence – Eligibility for lease cars is made based on the role. Internal candidates ensure you check the lease car policy and consider its impact before applying.

Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service.
