Casual Care Responder (South Gloucestershire Council)
How You'll Make a Difference
As a Casual Care Responder, you will work directly with the community, responding to planned or emergency care visits in people’s homes. The Rapid Response Service attends to residents of South Gloucestershire who have pending alarms and helps them in crisis, supporting residents to remain at home and avoid hospital admissions.
What You Will Be Doing
* Work with residents in their own home following a crisis, aiming to improve quality of life and independence.
* Keep accurate records of visits in line with council guidelines; work closely with practitioners to implement care plans, refer issues and raise concerns following safeguarding procedures.
* Use the rapid response 4X4 vehicle and be first on scene attending fall calls from the pendent alarm, assist residents with a raiser chair, and deliver care to those experiencing a crisis (ill health, reduced mobility, or main carer unwell).
What We Need From You
* Empathy and sensitivity for people with varied physical and emotional needs; flexible approach to challenging behaviour in homes and community.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Able to work under pressure and remain calm during a crisis.
* Experience in a care sector and knowledge of Care Act 2014 (not essential).
* Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., QCF, NVQ2, CQC Care Certificate) is desirable; if not held, you will be required to complete the CQC Care Certificate.
What You Need to Know
* Response service runs 7 days a week, 7:00 am–10:15 pm.
* This is a casual contract with ad hoc hours per week; remuneration is pro‑rata.
* Uniform and equipment are provided.
* Working primarily out of our office in Yate and in the community.
* Must have a full, valid driving licence and regular access to a vehicle, or alternative travel means.
* Business insurance will need to be added to your insurance policy.
* You can claim mileage expenses.
* Employment requires an enhanced DBS check.
