NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We are looking for an individual who works well as part of a team to work within this busy but friendly department. You will be expected to rotate through the different sections of the department, which will require multi-tasking skills and the ability to retain a variety of different processes and knowledge to cope with the diversity of tasks required. This will follow extensive training and completion of competence-based assessments. You will have the opportunity to work in routine Histopathology sections associated with the specimen pathway through the department.

We are a progressive, expanding teaching hospital department with an annual workload of approximately 47,000 surgical pathology specimens and 2,000 diagnostic cytology cases. The base is at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

This challenging post requires applicants to hold an IBMS Accredited Honours Degree in Biomedical Science, be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist, and have an IBMS post-registration Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology or equivalent. The Pathology Department is committed to Continued Professional Development.

Consideration will also be given to applicants with the following:

* Those with an IBMS Accredited BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Science and who are registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist but have not yet completed the IBMS specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology. This post will subsequently be considered as a training post (Band 6 Annex 21 Para 2 (ii)).

On appointment, the post holder must achieve the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology within 2 years.

* Those with an IBMS Accredited BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Science who have not yet completed the IBMS Registration Portfolio.

This post will subsequently be considered as a training post (Band 6 Annex 21 Para 2 (ii)).

On appointment, the post holder must complete the IBMS Registration Portfolio to gain the certificate of competence and become registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist within 1 year. Following this, they must then achieve the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology within 2 years thereafter.

The Department is a UKAS accredited medical laboratory No. 8682, and has IBMS Training Approval Status for pre and post registration training.

Informal enquiries/visits are welcome – please contact Mr Andy Munro, Clinical Laboratory Manager, at tel: 01382 632666 or via email: andy.munro@nhs.scot. Alternatively, contact Ms Nicky Robson, Quality Manager, at tel: 01382 740084 or email: nicola.robson@nhs.scot.

Hours of work are: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
