Lead Design Engineer (Process – Clean Water)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Design Engineer (Process – Clean Water) to join the Engineering Design Team at Yorkshire Water and help us deliver great service to our customers. This is a permanent, full-time role with 37 hours per week (Monday – Friday).
Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford, with future relocation to Leeds Valley Park (Summer 2026). Hybrid working – minimum 1 day per week in the office.
Responsibilities
* Provide process engineering support from project definition to detailed design and commissioning by attending key meetings, design meetings, value engineering meetings, Hazop meetings and site visits.
* Support the project team with the selection and development of best value, safe and reliable solutions that meet treatment objectives, providing a robust challenge where appropriate.
* Assure the outline design prepared by the strategic planning partner, and the tender/detailed designs prepared by the capital delivery partner by reviewing key process documents (P&IDs, mass balance, process sizing calculations, hydraulic profile, 3D model and control philosophy) in advance of formal gateways.
* Act as a conduit for the Engineering Design Team, involving other disciplines as required.
* Manage and update Yorkshire Water’s Design Guidance documents, consulting key stakeholders and incorporating best practice from existing sites and learning from new schemes.
* Support the development of standard designs in conjunction with the Engineering Design Team and supply chain.
* Retrieve and analyse process data to support the design process.
What skills & qualifications you will need
* A degree level qualification (or equivalent) in chemical engineering, chemistry or water treatment related discipline.
* Expert knowledge of water treatment processes.
* A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a technical role in water treatment.
* Experience of process engineering design in the water industry.
* A strong attention to detail.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a wide business audience, and the ability to influence people.
* Experience of working on multiple tasks to project deadlines.
* Full valid driving license with less than 6 points.
