Winchester College is hiring a Porter & Security Officer to start asap. This role is crucial for maintaining a safe and secure environment for the school community, assets, staff, pupils, and visitors, while ensuring a friendly welcome for all.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be part of a high-performing security team, with duties including:
* Monitoring CCTV and responding appropriately.
* Conducting regular foot patrols of College grounds and Boarding Houses for exterior security.
* Actively identifying and escalating security or safeguarding threats.
* Serving as a crisis center during emergencies, contacting emergency services and College personnel.
* Greeting, welcoming, and directing visitors while overseeing College activity.
* Receiving and distributing post/parcels.
* Maintaining a security log.
* Supporting the electronic access systems.
* Monitoring and responding to intruder/fire alarms.
* Assisting with events and functions.
* Providing care and assistance to College staff and pupils.
* Maintaining a clean driving license.
* Being prepared to become a qualified first aider if not already.
* Keeping the Porters’ Lodge clean and tidy.
* Supporting the Head Porter with other tasks as directed.
* The balance between porter and security duties may vary depending on the shift.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have:
* Extensive experience in a similar security role (desired).
* SIA qualification and license desirable, or a willingness to be trained.
* A happy, welcoming, and "can-do" disposition.
* Diplomatic, tactful, and open-minded.
* Ability to work collaboratively.
Terms and Conditions
This is a zero-hours position, working 52 weeks a year, with an hourly rate of £12.21 (gross).
