Job Description
An experienced Production Engineer is required to join a well-established manufacturer of engineering equipment located in Hook. In this role, you will support daily production operations by developing and refining manufacturing processes and procedures. Your key objectives will be to reduce waste, improve product quality and workplace safety, and lower operational costs. You will also work closely with the Engineering team to uphold best manufacturing practices and promote design for manufacture principles.
Production Engineer Job Overview
* Provide real-time assistance to Assembly Technicians by addressing build issues and non-conformances as they arise.
* Resolve non-conformities using root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys and Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams.
* Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent work practices and optimise workflows, considering space utilisation and component storage.
* Carry out time and motion studies, utilising value stream mapping to identify and implement process improvements.
* Design and develop jigs and fixtures to improve assembly efficiency and accuracy.
* Champion and support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with strategic business goals, focusing on waste reduction and quality enhancement.
* Incorporate ergonomic principles and Health & Safety best practices into all process development.
* Promote and implement error-proofing (poka-yoke) techniques throughout the production line.
* Ensure that all product requirements and Bills of Materials (BOMs) are considered from initial design to final production, supporting a "design for manufacture" approach.
* Undertake ad hoc projects as required by the business.
* Deliver training to operators on new or improved processes.
Production Engineer Job Requirements
* Minimum qualification of HNC / HND (or equivalent) in mechanical, engineering, or manufacturing disciplines.
* Solid understanding of engineering principles, technical documentation, and scientific data.
* At least two years' experience within a lean manufacturing setting.
* Proven track record of improving manufacturing processes.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a logical mindset.
* Self-motivated with the ability to manage and prioritise workload independently.
* Knowledge of product development lifecycles, standardisation practices, prototyping, and pre-production processes.
* Awareness of customer requirements and the implications of quality issues or delivery failures.
* Comfortable working in a varied and fast-paced environment.
* Competent in using PCs and data analysis tools.
Production Engineer Salary & Benefits
* Salary in the region of £35,000 depending on experience
