Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Manager (based in Wales) overseeing Team Leaders and operational staff within Wales & South England. The Manager will provide security response and guarding to sites 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Key responsibilities include taking command and control of major and critical incidents at operational or tactical levels, managing and developing the team, creating and implementing operational and emergency procedures, and acting as the key interface between security and other internal or external teams and partners.

This role offers an opportunity to have real influence within Mitie security operations in London. The Area Manager position is fixed Monday to Friday with occasional weekend on‑call duties. The Manager may be required to provide cover during other times of the day or night, perform out‑of‑hours visits to various sites, and be on‑call at weekends on a rota basis. Occasional travel to other sites nationally may also be required. Contractual working hours are 45 hours per week.


The Candidate

To apply, you must have proven experience of line managing a team, ideally in a busy security, Civil Service, military or police environment with experience of creating and developing new procedures and processes. Previous knowledge of incident management, command and control structures and escalation processes will be beneficial. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to work is essential due to the nature of the role.

Key Responsibilities

* Responsible for the operation and continual development of the security staff within their region.
* To be the first management point of contact for any security incidents.
* To manage security incidents at Operational (Bronze) or Tactical (Silver) level.
* Ensuring that KPI's are met and in line with client expectations.
* Responsible for ensuring that procedures for the security staff remain current and up to date.
* Responsible for management of shift patterns, authorising and planning of staff leave and management of sickness absence.
* Responsible for undertaking performance development reviews and team meetings.
* Responsible for recruitment and retention of security staff.
* Assist with the creation and development of contingency and emergency planning and procedures for all operational sites in the event of an emergency.
* Assist with development and implementation of any new systems on behalf of the BBC and then organising in‑house workshops to embed these.
* Interface with the partner teams to ensure that any issues are being tracked and resolved.
* Monitoring and analysing all relevant reports and briefing documents.
* Completion and distribution of management reports to SLT and client.
* Being proactive and making suggestions for continuous improvement.
* To ensure appropriate records are maintained of accidents, incidents or near misses and maintain an accurate log of site restrictions/hazard identification.
* Work with the security operations team to ensure that up‑to‑date online site inductions and site safety documentation and operational safety plans are in place for each site.
* Provide an active contribution towards ensuring operations and maintenance activities are carried out to industry best practice and regulation in terms of Health, Safety and the Environment.
* Carrying out other reasonable tasks as directed by the SLT.


Qualifications

* Essential – Previous experience of line managing a team and hold a valid SIA Security Licence.
* Essential – Clear and confident communicator both verbally and in writing.
* Essential – Willingness to work shift work/non‑routine hours including weekends.
* Essential – Able to work on their own and as part of a team.
* Essential – Previous knowledge/experience of Incident Management within an operational environment or similar.
* Essential – Willingness to undertake continuous personal development.
* Desirable – Health and Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely) or experience.
* Desirable – Proven ability to quickly learn and effectively adhere to new processes and procedures.
* Desirable – Previous experience/qualification in delivery of training.
* Desirable – Contributes to a positive team environment.
* Desirable – Drive, enthusiasm and self‑motivation.
