Scottish Canals are now recruiting for Seasonal Canal Associates on the Crinan Canal for the 2026 season starting next spring. Our ideal candidates will have a cheerful and positive outlook, be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions in customer-facing positions along the canal. Tasks will include assisting with grass cutting and maintenance, painting and moving boats between locks. Due to the physical nature of the role, a good level of fitness is required. We can accommodate flexible availability and time off during the season. This is a great role for people who love the outdoors, enjoy meeting new people and acquiring new skills. You ll be provided with full training, a uniform, a company phone and support from experienced team members. Key duties include assisting with: Working with boating customers, to deliver excellent customer service & care. Operating lock gates, bridges and managing water resource. Ensuring H&S compliance. Routinely operating mowers, strimmers, and other ground care equipment. Performing occasional manual labour tasks. It will be to your advantage if you have: Experience of working within relevant operational environment e.g., customer service, general vegetation management and general asset management. Good communication skills. Basic computer skills, email, MS-Word and other phone apps. A valid and clean driving licence This role attracts an hourly rate of 12.60, rising to 13.45 from 1 st April 2026. You will work on a rolling rota which will include weekends and bank holidays. We are looking for team members to join us from mid-May until the end of October 2026.
