What is the purpose of this job?
The Rail Delivery Group (RDG) brings together the companies that run Britain’s railway into a single team with one goal - to deliver a better railway for passengers and their communities.
All the passenger and freight rail companies are members of the RDG, as well as Network Rail and HS2. RDG provides services and support to enable its members to succeed in transforming and delivering a successful railway, benefiting customers, taxpayers and the economy.
The Digital Ticketing Services (DTS) is part of RDG and provides an industry shared service to enable the use of smart ticket solutions by delivering a high performing back-office service which enables a fully interoperable national smart ticketing system for now and the future.
The DTS will enable Train Operating Companies (TOCs) to deliver a fully interoperable service which allows their customers to travel seamlessly across Great Britain. The DTS will also enable TOCs to offer new/future smart ticketing solutions and the ability to increase intelligence on journeys through access to new data.
We are offering an exciting opportunity be part of a growing team with a pipeline of exciting smart ticketing projects. This role will manage, as directed, technical tasks on multiple Smart Ticketing DTS projects/enhancements/upgrades and support related activities. The successful candidate will have proven experience of system development and configuration management. They will also have proven experience of technical problem solving, configuration documentation and related ITIL processes. This role will liaise with cross-functional internal teams as well as technical teams from suppliers, customers and other stakeholders.
What can I expect to do in this job?
This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include:
Support design and production of test cases, scripts, and plans across the lifecycle of projects for all aspects of acceptance, integration, and End to End Testing.
Manage as directed all test issues through to completion including detailed analysis and where required issue resolution with both internal and external Suppliers and ensuring provision of status updates to the Test Lead and Test Manager.
As part of a team ensuring provision and maintenance of a high-quality test environment.
Where appropriate assist with developing internal test practices that complies to the DTS practices and test strategies.
Input where required to test estimations to ensure correct tracking for projects and initiatives.
Apply analytical skills to existing complex IT solutions as well as new and developing Digital Ticketing solutions.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with both internal stakeholders, Customers, Suppliers, and vendors.
Execute tests in the Test portfolio across multiple projects and initiatives.
Deliver Technical documentation and guides as required.
Where required representing the DTS service at relevant Boards and forums.
Day to day management of own activities and prioritise accordingly.
Aptitude for complex IT systems and messaging and a keen understanding of systems defect analysis.
Ability to work independently to achieve project deliverables & timescales.
The successful candidate will have proven experience of all forms of testing on multiple complex IT Solutions, as well technical problem solving, risk identification and related ITIL processes. This role will liaise with cross-functional internal teams as well as technical teams from suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders so good communication skills will be essential.
Familiarity with test tools such as SOAPUI and Rest, Selenium, Python and SQL as well as JIRA and Test Rail are required.
A detailed working knowledge of ITSO Specifications and Rail Related Standards is a necessity for this role. Additionally, it is desirable for Candidates to have had experience of PAYG/EmV Contactless payment technology and Mobile based Solutions.
