Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Digital Engineering to play a key leadership role within a major technology transformation programme at a forward-thinking financial services organisation.
This position sits at the heart of digital delivery, leading one of the organisation’s core engineering pillars. You will be responsible for delivering a portfolio of customer-facing platforms, applications, and microservices, driving engineering excellence and ensuring high-quality outcomes at scale.
This is a delivery-focused leadership role, with accountability for execution, engineering standards, and performance rather than architecture ownership.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead a core engineering function with full accountability for delivering digital applications and microservices
* Oversee development and operation of customer-facing mobile, web, and API platforms
* Deliver secure, scalable, cloud-native applications using modern engineering practices
* Collaborate closely with Product teams to align delivery with business and customer priorities
* Drive engineering standards across backend, frontend, and mobile development
* Implement and optimise CI/CD pipelines using modern tooling (e.g. Kubernetes, GitOps, ArgoCD)
* Embed automation and AI-driven capabilities into digital customer journeys
* Champion Agile, DevOps, and automated testing practices to improve delivery speed and quality
* Partner with Architecture, Risk, Compliance, and Security teams to ensure secure and compliant delivery
* Mentor and develop engineering teams, fostering a high-performance engineering culture
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven leadership experience managing software or digital engineering teams
* Strong hands-on background as a senior engineer prior to moving into leadership
* Demonstrated experience delivering production-grade applications and microservices in cloud-native environments
* Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
* Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes-based deployments, and GitOps practices (e.g. ArgoCD)
* Experience working in Agile, product-led environments alongside Product teams
* Solid understanding of secure coding practices, API security, and regulatory considerations (preferably within financial services)
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
