The Vice Principal will provide strategic educational leadership across all schools within Berkhamsted Schools Group, with a particular focus on the two senior schools and Sixth Form; they will also deputise for the Principal. This pivotal role requires oversight of day-to-day running of the schools through close liaison with their Heads, whilst maintaining the Group’s culture in line with its values and mission. Key responsibilities include acting as Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Senior Schools and Sixth Form; being a key member of the Group’s Executive Leadership Team; chairing Senior Management Team meetings; monitoring teaching and learning standards; supporting and developing teaching staff; and engagement with Governors in a number of different ways. The successful candidate will also oversee examination analysis, curriculum development, staff recruitment, and lead the Group through inspection processes. The role demands exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, a real interest in CPD and staff well being, and a strong understanding of safeguarding. The Vice Principal serves as a vital link between the Principal, SMT and Common Room and will need to be flexible, creative and adaptable in their leadership style. The role will afford the right candidate the opportunity to further hone their knowledge of complex school leadership. The successful candidate will have proven senior leadership experience in the independent education sector, with demonstrable expertise in educational management and staff development. Experience in boarding education and understanding of the independent school landscape would be advantageous.
