Junior Herdsperson - Derbyshire -£30,000 DOE + Accommodation
The Job:A well-established dairy business is seeking an experienced Herdsperson to join their committed team managing a 300-head pedigree Jersey herd. With year-round calving and a clear focus on animal welfare and milk quality, this is an excellent opportunity for someone with hands-on dairy experience and a passion for Jersey cattle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Twice-daily milking using a rotary parlour system
- Managing grazing and buffer feeding during summer; TMR feeding in winter
- Monitoring herd health and welfare, including foot trimming, heat detection, and breeding
- Rearing calves and maintaining high standards of stock care
- Maintaining cleanliness of the parlour and milking equipment
- Supporting TMR feeding operations and contributing to record-keeping
- Adhering to strict hygiene and health & safety protocols

The Candidate:
This role is ideal for a motivated individual with solid experience in dairy farming and an interest in working with Jersey cattle.
Ideal candidate profile:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in milking and dairy stockmanship
- Strong understanding of dairy herd routines, hygiene, and calf rearing
- Experience or interest in AI and TMR feeding is highly advantageous
- Reliable, proactive, and capable of working independently and as part of a team
- Flexible approach to working hours, especially around herd needs
- Right to work in the UK is essential
The Package:
- Competitive salary based on experience
- 5 days on / 7 days on rota (alternating weeks)
- Hours typically between 4:30am and 6:00pm
- “Job and finish” style working approach
- Accommodation may be available for the right candidate
