Job Title: Electrical Estimator
Location: Buntingford, SG9
Employment Type: Full-Time, Monday to Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 per annum - depending on experience
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our team specialising in reactive maintenance works within the social housing sector.
This role involves reviewing engineer reports and site photographs, pricing works using SOR (Schedule of Rates) codes, raising variations, and producing accurate quotations for housing associations and local authorities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring works are correctly assessed, commercially viable, and submitted in line with client contracts and SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
Job Assessment & Technical Review
* Review engineer job notes, reports, and site photographs
* Assess scope of works in line with client specifications
* Identify required labour, materials, and access equipment
* Query incomplete or unclear information with engineers
* Ensure compliance with current regulations (BS 7671, NICEIC standards)
Estimating & SOR Pricing
* Price works using client-specific Schedule of Rates (SOR)
* Apply correct labour units and material allocations
* Raise and price variations outside of contract scope
* Ensure margins align with company targets
* Monitor cost accuracy against completed jobs
* Identify opportunities to improve commercial performance
Quotations & Client Submissions
* Prepare and submit quotations within SLA timeframes
* Compile supporting documentation (photos, reports, breakdowns)
* Track quotation approvals and rejections
* Amend and resubmit quotes where required
* Maintain accurate records for audit purposes
Commercial & Operational Support
* Liaise with engineers, supervisors, and contract managers
* Support the operations team with cost queries
* Flag high-value or complex jobs to management
* Assist in reviewing contract performance and cost trends
Experience & Skills Required
* Previous experience estimating electrical works
* Strong knowledge of reactive maintenance in social housing
* Experience working with SOR-based contracts
* Good understanding of domestic electrical systems
* Knowledge of BS 7671 regulations
* Commercial awareness and attention to detail
* Proficient in Excel and estimating systems
* Ability to work under pressure and meet SLA deadlines
Desirable
* Experience working with housing associations or local authorities
* Knowledge of NICEIC requirements
* Experience pricing EICRs and remedial works
