Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Clinical Lead to join the Mental Health team at HMP Kirkham, a category D prison located in Kirkham, Preston. The role is based within the prison’s own Healthcare department and involves leading a team of four, including two senior mental health nurses, a nursing associate, and a healthcare assistant. The Clinical Lead will provide a 50/50 split of clinical care and managerial duties, working closely with the wider healthcare team.
Responsibilities
* Lead and support the Mental Health team within the Integrated Healthcare Services team.
* Provide clinical leadership and management to registered nurses and allied health professionals.
* Establish inter‑agency working to ensure good communication and quality of care.
* Maintain consistent clinical practice aligned with autonomous practice within the role.
* Use the Wellbeing Approach and Practice Plus mental health policy to provide nursing triage, screening and assessment.
* Participate in developing local operating procedures to clarify pathways for clinicians.
* Deal with all complaints and concerns relating to mental health in a timely fashion.
* Nurse‑lead treatment or care within mental health.
* Ensure waiting lists are managed to minimise waiting times for patients.
* Manage medicines and provide advice, including supporting medicine administration.
Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health Nurse – NMC.
* Experience providing supervision.
* Teaching / mentoring experience or qualification.
* Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development activity.

Salary and Hours
Part‑time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. Annual salary between £51,643 and £58,012, depending on experience. Weekend work may be required approximately one weekend in four.
