Transferee RPU (Road Policing Unit) Trainer


Vacancy Information

Contract Type – Permanent

The Role

To deliver a comprehensive and blended approach to training across the entire RPU curriculum.

To support the continuous development of both new and existing officers, ensuring that team skills and qualifications remain current, relevant, and aligned with operational requirements.


Key Responsibilities

* Design, deliver and evaluate learning activities to improve cost effectiveness and quality of training throughout the force.
* Ensure all staff are given the opportunity to develop required competency to carry out their roles within the Force by managing learning and development of students.
* Consistently monitor learning delivery to achieve required student levels of knowledge, skills, and behaviours and, where necessary, identify, challenge and influence students to adjust behaviours.
* Coordinate, plan, and deliver or facilitate RPU rotational training days, ensuring content is aligned with force priorities and addresses identified development needs.
* Support and manage learning assessment activities to ensure achievement of accredited packages (e.g., College of Policing programmes, CPD).
* Produce lesson plans to Force standards.
* Respond to issues with students to identify causes and seek solutions to support individuals where required.
* Hold tutorials with students to discuss individual progress and, where necessary, support with guidance or a development plan.
* Liaise with Admin Teams in both forces to ensure students are provided with pre‑ and post‑course material.
* Recognise, supervise and challenge inappropriate behaviour displayed in the training environment to maintain Force Standards of behaviour.
* Establish effective networks with key internal and external partners to implement collaborative approaches to learning and development and overall management of their role as guest speakers.
* Maintain professional competence and subject matter knowledge to deliver ongoing RPU related courses across the Force.
* Perform any other duties as determined by the team leader and expected of the pay grade.


Essential


Skills & Experience

* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills together with the ability to facilitate the development of others and to influence and empower students so that they are able to make any required adjustments to their behaviour.
* Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to facilitate workshops for individuals and teams.
* Well developed written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate records and reports.
* Highly motivated with the ability to work on own or under minimal supervision.
* Fully conversant with Microsoft Office products and accurate keyboard skills.
* Has a sound operational background within a policing environment together with a good knowledge of law and procedure.
* RPU background having successfully completed Initial Skills course and Traffic Patrol Officer course.
* Recent permit in both Advanced car and TPAC (last 12 months).
* Up-to-date knowledge of Road legislation and law, drink/drug driver law and experience of Investigating Collisions and Scene Management.
* Willing to test, evaluate and make recommendations about specialist equipment to support the effective deployment of operational staff and officers in identified roles.
* Capable of passing the DVSA Level 2 medical.
* Able to offer professional advice and expert opinion to the Force where required.


Desirable

* Have completed a Training Essentials Programme (TEP) course or hold an L4 Training Qualification.
* DIRFIT trainer or be willing to work towards.
* EBTI trainer or be willing to work towards.
* Up-to-date experience in DVI.
