As specialist Facilities Management recruiters, we are delighted to be supporting a highly prestigious London-based organisation in the appointment of a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer on a temporary basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a large, complex and operationally busy site where engineering standards, compliance and service delivery are paramount. The role offers real responsibility, autonomy and the chance to play a key part within a professional and well‑established facilities team.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical maintenance and water hygiene compliance across the site. This is a hands‑on position with leadership responsibilities, including supervising engineers and managing subcontractors when required. You will play a key role in ensuring statutory compliance, plant reliability and operational continuity within a live operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across HVAC systems, plant rooms, pumps, valves and water systems.
* Act as Responsible Person for Water Hygiene, managing Legionella risk assessments and remedial actions.
* Oversee weekly flushing regimes, temperature monitoring and compliance documentation.
* Conduct daily plant inspections and BMS checks.
* Raise and manage permits for high‑risk works (hot works, confined spaces, working at height).
* Supervise subcontractors including inductions and safety briefings.
* Support facilities requirements during live operations.
* Assist with compliance activities including emergency lighting, fire alarms, RCD testing and statutory inspections.
* Contribute to quarterly, six‑monthly and annual PPM programmes including boiler servicing, HVAC inspections, gas safety checks, pressure testing and documentation reviews.
* Participation in an emergency on‑call rota is required.
What We Are Looking For
* Level 3 NVQ/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or recognised apprenticeship).
* IOSH Working or Managing Safely.
* Legionella / Water Hygiene certification.
* Several years of hands‑on mechanical maintenance experience.
* Experience leading engineers and managing contractors.
* Strong working knowledge of statutory compliance and SFG20 standards.
* Experience using CAFM systems.
* Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach.
* Desirable qualifications include NEBOSH, Gas Safe, F‑Gas, CSCS, LOLER/PUWER awareness and experience within complex or live operational environments.
