About the role
In your role as Technology Services Architect you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset.
This role will provide a great opportunity to be responsible for ensuring that current and new systems fit the USS enterprise environment working to a defined Architecture Engagement Model.
Understanding how all parts of the business model work including processes, technology, and application architectures.
Meeting the requirements of the USS and USSIM stakeholders, ensuring functional and operational needs are considered. Translating the technical architecture into the technical project and business project initiatives.
Taking the role of subject matter experts in their specialism, providing guidance and assistance to all technical teams ensuring the integrity of USS systems.
Technical Solutions Architects at USS are responsible for assessing the impact of integrating and deploying new technologies into the USS architecture, developing statements of architecture work, defining solution and technical design documents with handover to BAU engineering teams for build.
What you will be doing
As a trusted part of the IT you will be responsible for:
1. Working with Project Managers taking new solutions, software, and initiatives through the USS Architecture engagement model
2. Assessing the impact of new technologies being integrated or hosted on Group IT systems in terms of Platform, End User Compute (Laptops & VDI)
3. Producing Statements of Architecture Work outlining deliverables to the business/project management teams
4. Producing high-level solution design documents for review by architecture boards
5. Producing low-level detailed technical design documents to be translated into implementation work packages by either the architect or BAU engineering and operational teams
6. Ensuring the USS technology stack is fit for the organisation, constantly reviewing, and assessing the needs of the business against the technology in operation.
7. Engage and work with other technology teams within the business to develop solutions for future software and hardware solutions
8. Work closely with the IT Architecture Manager to develop technology and project roadmaps
9. Ownership of the governance model and standards for the deployment of new technologies
10. Keep up to date with new and emerging technologies such as Cloud services and Automation
11. Define standards for operational systems maintenance and system deployments
12. Create solutions prototypes, and designs for new technologies
13. Control solution development and development of roadmaps
14. Participate in the technology direction for the organisation
15. Solution development and control
16. Infrastructure and Cloud (Azure / AWS) design and governance
17. Project and product management
18. Hands-on approach to new technology and deploying new technology
19. Present solutions to senior IT / group management for consideration

To be successful in the role you will have:
20. Strong experience and knowledge of core USS technologies including server technology stacks, storage & capacity management, virtualisation platforms and Microsoft ADDS
21. End user technologies and controls such as MDM, VDI and security
22. Able to effectively manage a technical workload, both project and BAU
23. Experience of producing high and low-level technical design documentation
