The Role
The Council is looking for an experienced officer to lead its Commercial Practices Team. The successful candidate will lead a team of around half a dozen officers focusing mainly on fair trading activities, especially those linking into the public health agenda like underage sales and illicit tobacco. Rogue trading and tackling other organised criminal activities also fall to this team, although all officers across the service are expected to contribute to routine work such as inspection and sampling in areas like food standards.
Responsibilities
1. Lead a small team, managing day-to-day operations, overseeing investigative activities and supervising the completion of assigned work.
2. Work with colleagues through the tasking allocation process, assess submissions and agree activities for the team.
3. Deal with a wide range of customers and stakeholders, maintain relationships with bodies, and engage with regional specialist groups relevant to the Commercial Practices team.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven experience as an investigator in fair trading work.
* Experience handling larger investigations.
* Experience working with businesses under the Primary Authority provisions is helpful.
* Previous supervisory experience is desirable.
* Diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent is essential.
