Reed Engineering and Manufacturing are working with a leading Engineering and Manufacturing company.
Key Responsibilities
* Furnace/Melting Technician
o Operate niche specialised furnaces within the site.
o Melt materials such as nickel‑based superalloys, titanium alloys, or stainless steels in compliance with process specifications.
o Follow melting curves, target temperatures, alloy additions, and hold times precisely.
o Conduct alloy sampling and support chemical analysis processes.
o Pour molten metal into moulds safely and accurately.
* Furnace Preparation & Setup
o Prepare crucibles, furnace linings, charge materials, and tools to exact quality standards.
o Calibrate and check equipment prior to melting cycles.
o Verify material batches, heat numbers, and documentation before starting operations.
* Quality & Compliance
o Maintain full traceability of materials, melts, and process parameters.
o Record furnace data, temperatures, times, and deviations accurately.
o Follow quality approvals such as AS9100, NADCAP, and other internal quality procedures.
o Support root‑cause investigations for non‑conformance or melt‑related issues.
* Safety & Process Control
o Follow strict PPE and safety procedures.
o Complete risk assessments, pre‑use checks etc.
o Report hazards, near‑misses, or equipment issues immediately.
* Continuous Improvement
o Support improvements in furnace efficiency, melt quality, and process repeatability.
o Contribute to lean manufacturing or 5S initiatives.
o Assist in updating standard operating procedures.
* Shift Support
o Work closely with team members to maintain consistent production flow.
o Complete thorough handovers including melt logs, quality notes, and equipment status.
Skills & Experience Required
* Essential
o Experience in melting, casting, foundry, forging or heat treatment operations, or heavy manufacturing would be highly advantageous.
o Strong attention to detail and ability to follow tightly controlled processes.
o Safety‑focused mindset, especially in high‑temperature environments.
o Ability to interpret work instructions, melting parameters, and technical documents.
