Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, innovative qualified ACP to join our Specialised Cancer Services Team and contribute to the development of our adjuvant breast cancer service.

We are seeking an inspirational, influential leader who is confident, dynamic and visible and has significant experience working as an ACP within a non-surgical oncology setting and is committed to working to completion of the ACCEND ACP framework. Working with department managers and wider teams the individual will be required to ensure that clinical quality standards are consistently achieved and maintained.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a passion for nursing, be a role model who demonstrates the Trust values. As an autonomous practitioner the post holder will be required to work collaboratively with the wider MDT. They will also provide leadership and mentorship to support the development of the wider nursing team.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be a member of the team leading and delivering this exciting new service along with Consultant oncologists, Advanced Clinical Pharmacists and other ACP's.

Experience of working in Oncology independently assessing patients' suitability for systemic anticancer therapy (SACT) and subsequently prescribing SACT, particularly within Breast Cancer is also desirable.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Relevant Masters’ degree in Advanced Practice or recognised qualification via the supported portfolio route from HEE Centre for Advancing Practice
2. Registered Nurse with Valid NMC registration or Health Care Professional and registered with HCPC with relevant clinical experience
3. Advanced Physical Assessment module, Non-Medical Prescribing (if part of proposed role)
4. Advanced life support qualification (ALS/ILS)
5. Evidence of relevant continuous professional development
6. Recognised Leadership Award/qualification or equivalent experience
7. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.

Experience

Essential criteria

8. Significant relevant experience as qualified ACP working in an Oncology setting
9. Must be able to evidence and demonstrate experience of ability to act as an independent, senior decision maker in a clinical team using published specialist curricula where available
10. Evidence of portfolio of practice and sign off of competence of knowledge, skills and experience across all 4 pillars of advanced practice
11. Experience of undertaking service improvement activity
12. Evidence of contribution to audit and research activity
13. Experience of training, supervising and assessing competence of junior colleagues (medical staff / ACP's / NMAHPs)
14. Evidence of adopting strategic priorities into practice
15. Clinical / managerial leadership experience, including line management of staff, e.g., sickness/absence, recruitment/selection
16. Experience and understanding of clinical governance in a practice setting and of dealing with complaints and managing / investigating clinical or other incidents

Desirable criteria

17. Evidence of leading on implementing strategic priorities into practice
18. Experience of planning, developing and co-ordinating training material, courses, and activity for others
19. Experience of leading on change management or service improvement activity
20. Experience of SACT prescribing in breast cancer pathways

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

21. In depth knowledge of pathophysiology of all conditions seen in the speciality and their management
22. Able to analyse and synthesise patient information to formulate appropriate diagnoses and management plans
23. Can prioritise and manage own workload and support junior personnel in managing theirs when faced with conflicting pressures
24. High standard of written and verbal communication - able to present and receive complex information and communicate effectively with all grades of staff and patients / families
25. Excellent presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students/ colleagues/ external providers
26. Ability to manage self and maintain professional conduct in difficult and challenging situations
27. Effective leadership, negotiation and reasoning skills with the ability to influence, coach and motivate others
28. Knowledge of strategic vision and understanding of national and Trust agendas for advanced level practice
29. Knowledge and experience of bespoke advanced practice appraisal processes e.g., Practitioner E-Portfolio & CASP

Desirable criteria

30. Knowledge of various methods/theory of education delivery e.g., technology enhanced learning, simulation
