Job Title: Mechanical EngineerSalary: Competitive, based on experienceJob Type: Full-time, PermanentLocation: Kidderminster, Worcestershire Company OverviewA leading industrial site near Kidderminster is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer to take a senior leadership role within its engineering team at a modern energy and waste processing facility. The role is ideal for a mechanically focused professional with a strong understanding of plant maintenance, project planning, and compliance within a fast-paced, technically complex environment. Role OverviewThe Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:
* Leading the Mechanical Maintenance Department and acting as line manager to a team of Mechanical Technicians.
* Ensuring all mechanical systems and assets are maintained in line with operational standards and statutory regulations.
* Planning, resourcing, and executing scheduled shutdowns, plant upgrades, and preventive maintenance programs.
* Managing mechanical failures and faults efficiently while maintaining detailed reports and records.
* Overseeing external contractors and suppliers to ensure quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of mechanical services.
* Maintaining compliance with relevant safety regulations including PSSR and LOLER.
* Supporting plant improvements, obsolescence planning, and spare parts management.
* Assisting in audits and acting as a support to the Maintenance Manager when required.
* Collaborating with Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation teams as necessary.
Required Skills & Experience
* A qualified Mechanical Engineer, holding a minimum of a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
* Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in an industrial or process environment.
* Broad experience in the maintenance of mechanical systems, particularly rotating and high-pressure equipment.
* Familiarity with statutory mechanical testing and inspection requirements.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing both teams and contractors.
* Ability to plan and deliver maintenance activities within budget and time constraints.
Desirable Attributes
* Background in Energy from Waste, Power Stations, or complex process plant environments.
* Comfortable working independently and under pressure in a dynamic environment.
* Skilled at troubleshooting and improving plant reliability and efficiency.
* Proactive and collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork and continuous improvement.
