This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.

Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.

Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.


The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day, you will be part of a policing family making a real difference. Our mission is to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm, and keep communities safe.

The Digital Investigation Support Unit (DISU) within Specialist Crime Command is seeking a motivated and dynamic Digital Trainer to join the training team, delivering a wide range of learning programmes across Sussex and Surrey Police.

This role involves designing and delivering both bespoke and national training developed by the College of Policing. Topics include operational best practice, digital opportunities at crime scenes, risk management, and the use of specialist technical equipment. Training will be delivered through a blend of classroom and virtual environments. The team currently have bases at Woking and Lewes but regular travel across both force areas will be required as part of the role.

You will play a key role in equipping officers and staff with the skills and knowledge required to effectively use digital tools and techniques in modern policing.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, develop, and deliver engaging training programmes for PIP1/PIP2 officers, new recruits, and police staff
* Prepare lesson plans, course materials, and assessments to support learner progress
* Manage and coordinate a cross-force training schedule across Sussex and Surrey Police
* Deliver training at various locations, including planning, travel, and on-site facilitation
* Maintain and update training content in line with current legislation, best practice, and national guidance
* Engage with stakeholders to identify and develop new training opportunities, particularly in emerging digital practices
* Support force priorities including tackling serious crime, domestic abuse, and violence against women and girls (VAWG)
* Complete administrative duties and maintain accurate training records
* Achieve Digital Media Advisor (DMA) accreditation within 12 months
* Maintain continuous professional development (CPD), including attending relevant courses and observing operational policing
* Ensure all training is delivered safely with appropriate risk assessments
* Promote diversity and inclusion within all learning and development activities


Skills and Experience

* Proven experience designing and delivering effective training programmes with measurable outcomes
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and develop others
* Experience coaching and supporting individuals to build new skills and knowledge
* Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, including workshop delivery
* Interest in digital and cyber developments, with the ability to identify emerging trends
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly PowerPoint
* Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adapt to change


Qualifications

* Minimum Level 3 training qualification (e.g. Education & Training Award or a College of Policing recognised programme), or willing and able to achieve within 12 months


Other Requirements

* Full UK driving licence (travel across Sussex and Surrey required)
* Willingness to work flexibly in line with training programme needs
