A specialist SEMH secondary school in Gateshead is looking for a calm, confident 1:1 Support Assistant to support pupils who need a little extra help navigating school life. This isn’t a sit-at-the-back-of-the-classroom role. You’ll be right there in the action, helping students build trust, confidence, and the skills they need to succeed. What your day might look like No two days are the same, but here’s a taste: Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups during lessons Helping students regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively Encouraging engagement in subjects like English, maths, and vocational learning Working alongside teachers, mentors, and pastoral teams Celebrating the little wins, because in SEMH settings, they mean everything One moment you might be helping a student crack a maths question. The next, you’re guiding them through a tricky moment and getting them back on track.
