Our client – an established and forward-thinking engineering practice – is seeking a dynamic Associate Director to join their leadership team. This is a rare opportunity to influence strategy, drive growth, and lead technical excellence within a collaborative and values-led environment.
You’ll work alongside the senior leadership team to define the direction of the civil engineering discipline – overseeing a diverse project portfolio that includes everything from infrastructure and transport to sustainable energy and complex commercial builds. This role offers the platform to step into a business-critical position with influence across operations, innovation, and team development.
The Role
As a senior technical and strategic leader, you will:
Provide technical leadership across a wide range of civil engineering projects (including residential, commercial, industrial infrastructure, energy, and public realm).
Define and implement strategies for growth and innovation within the discipline.
Oversee the successful delivery of complex, high-value projects.
Act as the subject matter expert internally and externally.
Ensure the highest standards of technical quality, compliance, and risk management.
Lead or support key bids and business development activity.
Foster strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
Mentor and develop engineering talent across multiple levels.
Play a key role in succession planning and recruitment for the discipline.
What We’re Looking For
A degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field.
Chartered status with ICE, Engineering Council, or equivalent.
Extensive consultancy experience in civil engineering.
Proven leadership in delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects.
Deep understanding of UK codes, legislation, and best practice.
Commercially astute with a track record in winning work and growing teams.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
A collaborative leadership style that motivates and inspires.
A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable Extras
A Master’s in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar.
Fellowship status (FICE, CEng MICE, or equivalent).
Recognised thought leadership or contributions to the wider civil engineering community.
Experience influencing policy or industry standards.
Comfortable using digital and social platforms to represent and promote your work and the business.
