Job Description:

Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen on Lyme Ward. We are looking to recruit a motivated, experienced, dynamic, forward-thinking professional seeking a new challenge as a Ward Sister/Charge Nurse. The role requires flexibility with days, nights, and weekends to join our team.

Lyme Ward is a highly specialized Colorectal surgical ward offering post-operative care for Colorectal and Upper GI patients, including Cancer surgery. Our patient group includes elective, acute, high dependency post-ITU, and emergency cases.

The lead role involves driving clinical standards to ensure patient safety and experience, initiating and leading change on this developing and specialist ward. Organizational and negotiating skills are essential to achieve management and clinical goals.

Daily roles include ward coordination, teaching and supporting team members, attending multidisciplinary team meetings, delivering and monitoring high standards of care, and supporting the Clinical Nurse Manager with management tasks such as sickness/capability monitoring, appraisals, training, recruitment, and rostering.

You should demonstrate leadership, motivation, excellent communication skills, and good time management. An interest in developing leadership and management skills and a passion for our diverse specialties are important. For more information or to arrange an informal visit, contact the Clinical Nurse Manager, Emma Grieveson.

More about the role

This involves reviewing clinical records regularly, evaluating care standards, and working with the team to improve patient outcomes. Providing feedback on practice, mentorship, and role modeling are key responsibilities.

The role also includes proactive involvement in quality and service improvement, auditing clinical standards, and ensuring a high standard of care in a positive working environment.

Working Pattern: Shift work including long days, nights, early shifts, lates, weekends, and public holidays.

Interview Date: To be confirmed.

Pay: The salary reflects the Agenda for Change 5/6 rates, including a pay award to be implemented later this year. If joining before the update, pay will be backdated. This is a fixed-term contract until 01.08.2025. NHS employees may have the opportunity for secondment.

Further Information: Contact Emma Grieveson, Clinical Nurse Manager. The Trust values diversity and encourages applications from all backgrounds. Preference may be given to NHS At Risk staff.
