Are you new to acute care? Have you never worked in a hospital setting? Join the team at Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker. You will undertake your care certificate and have the opportunity to progress to a Band Senior HCSW with further training and qualifications.
Position based at St. Peter's Hospital, Chertsey, Surrey. You will work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
As an HCSW you will provide fundamental bedside care alongside nursing teams – washing & dressing, assisting with eating & drinking, mobilisation, continence support, and personal care. You will maintain patient privacy and dignity, uphold infection control, safeguard adults and children, and help with communication.
We're looking for compassionate, caring individuals with good communication and IT skills. Applicants must be over 18, UK residents with a right to work and must demonstrate suitability for the role.
Interviews are scheduled on Friday, 5 June 2026.
Job responsibilities
* Provide direct patient care in a ward or department, supporting nursing staff and teams.
* Support continence care, nutrition and hydration, eating and drinking.
* Assist with personal care, washing and dressing.
* Help with mobilisation and moving of patients.
* Maintain a clean environment and implement infection prevention and control.
* Safeguard adults and children.
* Support patient communication.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Functional level of English and Maths.
Experience
* Customer service or working with people.
* Teamwork.
* Prior experience as a health care support worker.
Knowledge
* Understanding of the role of a Healthcare Support Worker in a hospital setting.
* Knowledge of Trust vision, values and behaviours.
Skills
* Effective communication.
* Caring and compassionate.
* Empathy and understanding.
