An exciting opportunity has arisen for a social worker within the Older Persons Community Mental Health Team (OPCMHT) in Newcastle.
The position is a full time, permanent post within a supportive team. It is the perfect time to join us as we have recently embarked on a new model of social work practice which is more relationship based and utilises traditional social work skills.
The successful candidate will have interest, knowledge and understanding of functional and organic mental health in older people and be adept at assimilating and evaluating complex information. You will liaise effectively with other agencies and professionals and have an ability to recognise and support service users, families and carers to achieve positive outcomes whilst handling problems calmly and sensitively. You will have a good understanding of the legislative frameworks of the Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, s42 Safeguarding Enquiries and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. You will also have experience of Court of Protection and Mental Health Tribunal work.
You will be a qualified social worker who is dynamic, passionate and highly motivated to collaboratively support service users and carers to achieve positive outcomes in line with the Care Act 2014 and Local Authority statutory duties. You will be required to work closely with health colleagues across the region to support older adults with various mental health difficulties. You will demonstrate a commitment to collaborative working as you will be required to participate in regular Multi-Disciplinary and external stakeholder meetings.
You will complete assessments, case manage, and offer advice/support to adults and carers alike, using a strength based approach. You will have experience of safeguarding processes and be able to manage complex risk situations.
