Overview

Are you a confident communicator with a passion for rehabilitation and group work? A career as a Programme Facilitator in the Probation Service (South Central) involves delivering Accredited Programmes and Structured Interventions to people who engage in harmful behaviour, with the aim of reducing reoffending and helping individuals build constructive, pro-social lives in the community. You will plan, deliver and debrief sessions to diverse groups, using group dynamics awareness and prosocial modelling to reinforce positive behaviour.

You will work alongside colleagues to ensure high-quality input and support for people on probation, and you will share information with Probation Practitioners and Domestic Abuse Safety Officers. The South Central Intervention Team provides full training for the role, plus ongoing support, reflective supervision, and opportunities for development. Requirements of the Programme Facilitator role include training in delivering groupwork, delivering sessions to groups or individuals, monitoring progress, and contributing to risk assessment and safeguarding activities.


Responsibilities, Activities & Duties

* Plan and deliver Interventions in groups or on an individual basis to people on probation, creating a therapeutic and safe learning environment.
* Adhere to safeguarding responsibilities for children and adults and manage risk of serious harm.
* Manage group dynamics and diverse needs to ensure learning outcomes are achieved; address problematic behaviour.
* Monitor progress, provide feedback, and record data to meet quality assurance requirements.
* Liaise with Probation Practitioners, Domestic Abuse Safety Officers and partner agencies to share progress, risk and needs.
* Deliver workshops and briefings to Probation staff and external stakeholders on available interventions.
* Demonstrate pro-social modelling and challenge anti-social attitudes.
* Participate in regular video monitoring feedback to ensure audit standards and professional development.
* Adhere to policies on sensitive information, uphold equality and inclusion, and accept reasonable changes to duties as required.
* Candidates must undertake and pass an Assessment Centre prior to training.
* To become an Accredited Programmes Facilitator, complete Core Skills training (1 week) and programme-specific training (1 week per programme) as required.


Working Arrangements

* Evening and/or Saturday sessions may be required (up to 3 unsociable sessions per week).
* Deliveries may take place at various venues across the South Central Region (including Reading) and may involve travel; travel expenses can be claimed.
* Hybrid working options may be available where business needs allow.
* National roles are based at MoJ offices; location preferences will be considered during appointment.


Qualifications & Experience

* Competencies: Communicating and Influencing, Managing a Quality Service, Developing Self and Others, and Working Together.
* High level literacy and ability to read/write reports and correspondence for internal/external stakeholders.
* English fluency (Welsh where specified in Wales).
* Experience of dealing with challenging behaviour and working collaboratively in teams.
* Awareness/understanding of the criminal justice system, safeguarding principles and types of sentences for People on Probation.
* Ability to assess and analyse information from multiple sources to make decisions.
* Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
* Experience with IT software (e.g., Microsoft) and applying learning to improve performance.
* Ability to plan and prioritise tasks in changing environments.
