Retrofit Designer – Domestic Projects
Location: Manchester (Hybrid – 2–3 Days in Office)

Overview:
An established and forward-thinking built environment consultancy is seeking a skilled Retrofit Designer to join its Manchester-based Retrofit Team. With a strong pipeline of domestic retrofit work—particularly in the social housing sector—you’ll play a central role in delivering compliant, buildable designs aligned with PAS2035:2023 standards.
You’ll work closely with Retrofit Coordinators, Assessors, and contractors to develop technical solutions that improve energy efficiency, resident comfort, and long-term building performance.
Key Responsibilities:

Produce compliant retrofit designs in line with PAS2035:2023 and project briefs
*
Interpret Retrofit Assessment data to inform practical design decisions
*
Create clear, coordinated design documentation including drawings, risk assessments, ventilation strategies, and technical specifications
*
Undertake U-value calculations, condensation risk assessments, and thermal bridging analysis
*
Address heritage, performance, or site constraints with appropriate mitigation strategies
*
Finalise Medium-Term Plans in collaboration with Retrofit Coordinators
*
Support on-site delivery and ensure design intent is maintained through to installation
*
Stay up to date with DESNZ guidance and emerging retrofit best practices
What You’ll Need:
*
Qualified Architect or equivalent (MCIAT or ARB accreditation is essential)
*
Background in architecture, building design, surveying, or building services
*
Experience in domestic retrofit projects with strong knowledge of PAS2035
*
Technical expertise in insulation, ventilation, and moisture management
*
Proficient in Revit/CAD, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and digital tools (e.g. AirTable)
*
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
*
Full UK driving licence (site travel required)
*
Manchester-based with hybrid working (2–3 office days per week)
