Job Description
FPGA DSP Engineer - RF PHY (NB-IoT/Cellular/Space Systems)
Location: Hybrid - Cambridge (with flexible remote working)
Contract Type: (flexible hours negotiable)
Day Rate: Market rate (Blind Bid)
Clearance: Basic Security (BS) clearance required
We are seeking an experienced FPGA Engineer to support the development and implementation of RF physical layer functionality, specifically for narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) systems. This role forms part of a high-priority Digital Signal Processing programme focused on satellite and space-based communications systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong, recent hands-on experience in implementing baseband signal processing logic and delivering Real Time communications systems using FPGA platforms. This is not a role for someone who has briefly worked on similar systems in the past - we're looking for current, practical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, implement, and test RF physical layer components for NB-IoT or similar communications systems on FPGA platforms.
* Develop digital baseband processing blocks, such as modulation, filtering, synchronisation, and coding/decoding.
* Work closely with internal and client teams to support system integration and debugging.
* Operate in a hybrid delivery model with part time on-site presence required in Cambridge.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Practical experience implementing RF PHY layers for NB-IoT, LTE, or other 3GPP standards using FPGAs.
* Strong understanding of Digital Signal Processing for RF systems, including synchronisation, modulation schemes, and forward error correction.
* Experience contributing to Real Time communications systems, either terrestrial or space-based.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Exposure to satellite communications systems or space-based design constraints.
* Familiarity with hardware validation techniques, including lab testing and simulation environments.
* Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams, ideally within regulated or mission-critical settings.
