BASEC, part of Kiwa UK, is seeking a Cable Preparation Technician to join our team in Milton Keynes. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for preparing product samples using a range of hand and power tools, ensuring they are ready for technical testing by our engineers.
This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to gain practical experience in a laboratory environment, with full on-the-job training provided.
Overview:
* Work with the M&E Lead to prioritise cable samples for preparation.
* Assist in performing basic tests according to national and international standards, under supervision.
* Undertake basic testing of products as required, once competent. Examples include conductor resistance, insulation thickness, flash testing, voltage testing, tensile strength, and elongation measurements.
* Maintain clear communication with colleagues to ensure timely workflow and efficient handover of prepared samples to technicians.
* Ensure all tools and equipment are well-maintained and used safely.
* Support the general upkeep and smooth running of the lab, adhering to all quality, safety, and housekeeping procedures.
* Manage your workload effectively and collaborate with team members to optimise lab operations.
Responsibilities:
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive and proactive attitude.
* Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality responsibilities.
* Experience in an engineering/industrial environment is preferred but not essential.
* Basic understanding of engineering processes and principles.
* GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths, English, and Science.
* Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
Qualifications & Benefits:
* Salary: £24,570 per annum

* 37.5 hours per week – Monday-Thursday 7am to 3.30pm & Friday 7am to 12.30pm (lab-based role)
