Job overview

The Cardiac Investigations team at St.Richard's Hospital are looking for an enthusiastic full-time Chief Cardiac Physiologist with a specialist interest in Echo to assist in providing a high quality, patient centred, Cardiac Investigations service.

We are a forward thinking department offering a range of invasive and non-invasive investigations and therapies including Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transoesophageal Echocardiography, Ambulatory Monitoring, Exercise Tolerance Testing, Pacemaker, ICD and Complex device implantation and follow up and diagnostic angiography. We are striving to set up Physiologist led services and aim to provide and assist staff in Continuing Professional Development.

Main duties of the job

1. Performing echocardiograms
2. Providing comprehensive echo reports
3. Recording images of cardiac structures in both 2D and M Mode
4. Performing and recognising the implications of Pulse Wave and Continuous Wave Doppler Studies
5. Being fully conversant with all structural abnormalities to enable appropriate views to be recorded
6. Being able to interpret test results
7. Performing studies in the department as well as portable studies on the Wards, including I.T.U, H.D.U, Theatres, theatre Recovery and A&E when required
8. Being able to perform studies under difficult conditions
9. Being able to recognise and act upon abnormal findings
10. Being aware of patient condition and when to call for Physician assistance
11. Communicating results as and when necessary
12. Keeping up to date with new technologies and techniques
13. Attending training courses when staffing levels allow
14. Planning and organising own workload
15. Supporting and training colleagues and other members of staff
16. Being responsible for own continuing personal and professional development
17. Promoting a culture of collaborative working to improve patient quality of care

24. BSc Clinical Physiology, BSc Healthcare Science or equivalent
