Overview
The post-holder will be an experienced, knowledgeable practitioner who provides clinically based practice development and education to the nursing workforce, acting as a role model for evidence‑based professional practice. They will spend about 80% of their time working clinically, supporting other staff and ensuring the clinical area remains a positive learning environment.
Responsibilities
* Act as an exemplary role model for best clinical practice and Trust values
* Work alongside learners to facilitate independent learning
* Work to an agreed job plan to maximise education delivery and support staff and patient safety/experience
* Manage own time to balance clinical education and administrative activities
* Promote and contribute to an inter‑professional learning environment
* Deliver education programmes at a variety of levels and, where required, cross‑divisionally in support of organisational priorities
* Work as part of the local and corporate practice development teams
* Assist in anticipating and addressing the educational needs of the service
* Work across boundaries to proactively develop and sustain partnerships
* Participate in audit, service improvement and research projects relevant to the clinical educator role
Qualifications
* UK Health‑related recognised Degree relevant to the post
* Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of NMC revalidation
* Appropriate period of post‑registration acute nursing experience
* Evidence of specialist knowledge appropriate to the clinical area or practice development and education
* Familiarity with, and ability to effectively use, common office software suites (e.g. MS Office)
* Evidence of experience and qualifications in supervising and assessing colleagues and learners
* Evidence of study at level 7
* Experience or working within emergency medicine
* Demonstrated ability to put patients at the heart of care, fostering support, integrity, respect and teamwork
* Shows pride in the quality of care and learns from successes and setbacks
* Able to identify high standards of health care and champion change and innovation that delivers these high standards
* Evidences the ability to proactively support and develop colleagues in the delivery of care commensurate with Trust values and behaviours
* Able to identify the role of education in fulfilling these values and demonstrates a passion for education in this context
* Articulate and knowledgeable regarding skills needed to deliver a high standard of care
* Able to work under own initiative, raise appropriate concerns and work as part of a team
* Demonstrates ability to document observations, decisions and actions accurately and communicate them to the multidisciplinary team
* Effective communication with patients, relatives, carers and team members
* Able to contribute to the education of learners and less‑experienced staff
* Excellent communication and prioritisation skills
* Experience in maintaining and contributing to standards of practice, decisions in conjunction with team leaders
* Acts as a role model, leads by example to reinforce Trust values and behaviours
* Ability to supervise non‑registered and registered colleagues
* Ability to effectively and appropriately escaliate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
* Evidence of ability to delegate and manage colleagues
* Balance competing priorities within own workload
* Appropriate UK professional registration
