This is an opportunity for an experienced trading standards enforcement officer, or someone new to trading standards but with an investigative or regulatory background, to join our experienced and friendly Trading Standards investigations team.
The team investigates all types of fair trading and product safety matters with an emphasis on protecting vulnerable consumers, as well as looking into unfair trading which affects our local businesses or is to the detriment of North Yorkshire's well-deserved reputation as a fantastic visitor destination. Recent investigations have included doorstep crime and non-compliant building work, unsafe stoves, unroadworthy and 'clocked' cars, counterfeit furniture and fake fishing lines, so you can be sure you will have a varied and interesting caseload.
The Trading Standards service is a member of the Yorkshire and the Humber Trading Standards Group and North Yorkshire Council hosts the regional intelligence unit, the regional illegal tobacco officer, and the National Trading Standards e-Crime digital forensic lab and disruption team, so you will have the chance to work with colleagues across the region and to contribute to regional and national fair trading projects.
You will be required to maintain at least 20 hours CPPD per year and will have the benefit of membership of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute as part of our CPPD verification scheme.
This is a hybrid post with the opportunity for a mix of office and home-based working. You will be required to work across the whole of North Yorkshire when necessary. The post is based in Scarborough although consideration may be given to a different work base.
What can we offer you?
In addition to your salary, we offer a range of great benefits to help you financially and make life a bit easier.
These include:
* a local government pension scheme with 18.1% employer contribution
* salary sacrifice schemes
* employee discount benefits including shopping, supermarkets, gym discounts and more
* travel loans
* Health Assured – confidential help and support for your wellbeing
