The Principal Social Worker provides exemplary statutory social work services under the leadership of a Team Manager. This role is pivotal in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, supporting families and carers, and ensuring high-quality practice across assessment, planning, intervention, and review.
Responsibilities
* Champion evidence-based practice to improve outcomes for children.
* Lead on specialist areas of child development, risk management, and practice innovation.
* Mentor and support less experienced colleagues, including students and newly qualified social workers.
* Deputise for the Team Manager and contribute to service-wide quality improvement initiatives.
Your Role as Principal Social Worker
* Deliver statutory social work tasks to a consistently high standard in line with legislation and practice standards.
* Act as a corporate parent for children in care, supporting recovery from trauma and achieving emotional permanence.
* Prepare young people for leaving care with appropriate advice and guidance.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, including significant life events and family mapping.
* Provide reflective supervision and appraisal to social workers and practitioners.
* Lead consultations and task groups to improve practice and service effectiveness.
* Develop and disseminate specialist knowledge in child development, safeguarding, and evidence-based practice.
* Model continuous professional development and complete accredited post-qualifying awards.
* Foster strong partnerships with professionals, voluntary organisations, and community groups.
* Ensure compliance with HCPC registration requirements and Council policies.
Your previous experience as Principal Social Worker
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
* At least 5 years post-qualifying experience in social work.
* A strong understanding of child protection planning and safeguarding.
* Excellent communication and analytical skills.
* A commitment to promoting the rights and wellbeing of children and young people.
